Penn Future -- A Call to Action

As you may know, PYWN is a member of Penn Future and the Next Great City Coalition, an umbrella organization committed to a greener Philadelphia. We recently received an update from Christine Knapp, Director of Outreach for Penn Future, outlining many of the achievements from the previous year, and asking for your help. Please read on for Christine's message, and to find out what you can do to help green our wonderful city.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for all the work that you and the Philadelphia Young Women's Network have done to make this year extraordinary. We’ve had major victories in passing green jobs and energy conservation legislation, and we appreciate your support.

Before 2008 comes to a close, I wanted to invite you to take a few more simple steps that will go a long way in helping Pennsylvania stay on the right track towards our clean energy future. Would you be willing to sign on to the CoolPennsylvania Campaign?

As I’m sure you know, Pennsylvania produces more heat-trapping gases than 101 countries combined. We need to do our part to reduce our use of energy made by old outdated coal- and oil-fired power plants, and to call on our leaders for major changes right now from industry and government.

Add your organization to our growing list of endorsers. Doing so simply means you’ll be included in the public list of endorsing groups, and that you’ll receive timely information from PennFuture about opportunities to get more involved in state policy formation to achieve the campaign goals.

In addition, the prospects at the federal level have never looked better for strong, swift action to curb global warming and to expand our commitments to developing new, clean renewable energy. We could use your help making this happen now.

Can you sign also onto a letter asking Congress to support strong science-based global warming legislation? View the letter here, and then visit the Union of Concerned Scientists’ site to sign on now.

Lastly, if you’re interested in attending a briefing from the Union of Concerned Scientists to learn more about the impacts of global warming on Pennsylvania or if you want to join a meeting to urge your member of Congress to take swift action, you can let us know by following this link and indicating how else you might be able to show your support.

Thanks!
